First Drive Students Age 16 to 17
- Must be between 16 and 17 years old and have completed a Texas TEEN drivers ed course
- Must have a DE 964 certificate of completion (Note: First Drive will provide this)
- Must have held a Texas learner's permit for 180 days. The exact date is on the back of your permit
- Must have a ITTD Certificate (Note: This will be available at IMPACT and Register to watch 2 hr video)
- First Drive will provide car for Road Test
- Test is only valid for 90 days
- DPS will require Certified Birth Certificate or Passport and Social Security Card
First Drive Students (Age 18 to 24)
- Must have a valid Texas Learner's License (Note: A DPS Receipt for a permit is NOT acceptable. You must have a Learners License with your photo. Permits expire on your 18th birthday at 12:01 am)
- Must have an ADE-1317 or DE-964 certificate (Note: First Drive will provide this)
- Must have a ITYD Certificate (Note: This will be available at IMPACT and Register to watch 1 hr video)
- First Drive will provide car for Road Test
- Test is only valid for 90 days
- DPS will require Certified Birth Certificate or Passport and Social Security card
Other Commercial School Students (Age 16 to 17)
- Must be between 16 and 17 years old and have completed a Texas TEEN drivers ed course

Parent Taught Students (Age 16 to 24)
- Must be between 16 and 24 years old and have completed a Texas TEEN drivers ed course
- Must have a PT-964 certificate OR DE 964 Certificate from your Online Course provider
- The certificate must say FOR DRIVERS LICENSE ONLY at the top. The classroom completion must be filled in and the Parent must complete the Laboratory (In-Car) Completion section and sign the Certificate
- Must have held a Texas Learners License for 180 days. The exact date is on the back of your permit
- Must have a ITTD/ITYD Certificate (Note: This will be available at IMPACT and Register to watch the video)

Adults (Age 25 and older)
- Must have a valid Texas Learners Permit

Car Requirements for Road Test
- Car Registration must be Valid
- Certificate of Insurance must be Valid
- Must have 2 License Plates (Front & Rear)
- Temporary Plates are accepted ('Texas Buyer' or 'Metal Texas Dealer')
- No donut tires
- No Rental Cars
- Turn Indicators must work (Front & Rear)
- Horn must work
- Brake lights must work
After Passing Road Test
- After passing your test, you will receive a sealed envelop with your documents and Road Test Score Sheet (Note: Do Not Open)
- Take the sealed envelope along with Certified Birth Certificate or Passport, Social Security card, a current VOE (for teens) and the 30 Hour Parent Log (for teens) to the DPS to change your Learner's License to Driver's License
- The Road Test Score Sheet is only valid for 90 days. After 90 days you must retest
About IMPACT
Impact Texas Teen Drivers (ITTD), is a free, 2 hour program for teen drivers 15-17 years of age that have completed a teen driver education course or Parent Taught Driver Education course. Or for drivers 18-24 who completed a teen driver education course.
Impact Texas Young Drivers (ITYD), is a free, 1 hour program for young drivers 18-24 years of age and older that have completed the adult driver education course and for drivers 25 and over who may or may not have completed a driver education course.
Go to https://impacttexasdrivers.dps.texas.gov and Choose ITTD/ITYD and Click Register to create your account and begin taking the steps necessary to positively impact your highway safety.
Upon completion you will receive a Certificate of Completion that must be presented before taking the driving skills test (Road Test). The certificate must be dated within 90 days of the skills test.
